Boating on the Hudson & Beyond

July 2006, "About the July Cover..." pg 3

"When individuals and companies work together great things can happen. The cover represents such cooperation. A brand new Signature 350 Chaparral from Pennybridge Marine, famous Ivey from our own “Ivey’s in my Kitchen”, cooking chicken with her Magic Oil and Captain Lawrence “Freshwater Pale Ale” on a unique Magma grill mounted on the swim platform, Randy Shull, doing a live radio show, (it can be heard on the web anytime by clicking on radio shows on our main web page), all right next to the outdoor patio of the Striped Bass Restaurant at the Tarrytown Boat and Yacht Club, Tarrytown, NY."

Boating on the Hudson & Beyond

July 2006, "Boating on the Radio is Back!" pg 53

"... PennyBridge Marine has developed a system for installing the very popular Magma Grill on the stern swim platform of yachts they are selling.  The Magma Grill installed in this manner can easily be removed while underway.  It is far enough away from the boat in case of spills and the most convenient way to grill on a boat.  If you are interested in making your boat as complete as possible call Pennybridge Marine at 845-786-5100 for further information or contact them on the web at www.pennybridgemarina.com. ..."

Rockland Magazine

JULY 2006, pg 62

Rick Gustavsen & Steve Farkas

River Entrepreneurs

Rockland natives Rick Gustavsen and Steve Farkas grew up on the Hudson. As teenagers they water skied, swam, and cruised around in Farkas’ 15-foot Glastron boat. That was in the early ’70s, before the boating boom on the river took off, Farkas says. The two met while working at an A&P in New City, and after high school they took jobs with local marinas and boat dealers. In 1981, they bought a business repairing boats, fixing motors, and performing other basic services. Today, at 48, they are still partners and still fascinated by the Hudson, though they’ve seen the area shift quite a bit.

“Boating has really taken off,” Farkas says. “When I started, marinas were really just places to dock boats, many were rundown.” Now, he says, they’re geared to boating enthusiasts, people who are eager for communities of other boaters who share their passion. “They hang out at the marinas, have barbeques there,” he says.

The partners expanded their business about 11 years ago. From a humble repair shop, they now operate PennyBridge Marina in Stony Point, a 120-slip facility. “Business has been very good,” Farkas says. And if there’s one downside to that success, it means the friends have less time to enjoy their true passion. “When I was younger, almost every day I was out on the water,” he says. “I kind of miss it.” —R.Z.

We were live from the Striped Bass Restaurant in Tarrytown Marina on Saturday May 27th, 2006 along with Ivey, from Ivey's in my Kitchen.

We brought along a Chaparral 350 Signature and had Ivey cooking from the Catalina Magma Grill that was installed on the swim platform.
